Chess for kids

Online chess classes for kids

We've spent years teaching chess in schools and clubs in Zaragoza. Now we bring those classes home: small groups by level and age, over video call, with our own app that turns daily practice into a game. Groups are taught in Spanish, ideal for bilingual families, and private lessons are also available in English.

From what age?

There's no minimum age: what matters is that the child can keep their attention for the whole class. We organise the groups by age and level: with the youngest, classes are more visual and more about playing; with the older ones we work on tactics, openings and their own tournament games.

What your child learns

We move at the group's pace, from beginner to 1800 FIDE:

  • The rules and the basic checkmates, if they're just starting.
  • Not to give pieces away, and always to check what the opponent is threatening.
  • Tactics: pins, forks and combinations.
  • To analyse their own games and learn from their mistakes.
  • To compete: their first tournaments and how to handle nerves.

Daily tasks that feel like a game

Between classes they practise in our app: puzzle of the day, review of their own mistakes, levels, XP and challenges. That way they keep the habit without anyone having to nag, and their coach sees what they've worked on each week.

What chess gives a child

Chess trains concentration, patience and the habit of thinking before acting. And it teaches something just as important: how to lose, understand what went wrong and try again.

Who teaches the classes

Belén Miranda specialises in children and in building solid foundations. Miguel has coached at EM El Olivar in Zaragoza for three years, and Jorge coaches at the Agrupación Artística Aragonesa. All three of us still compete, and all three of us started just like your child: from scratch.

FAQ

Are the classes one-to-one or in groups?

In groups: small groups of children of a similar level and age who learn and compete together, taught in Spanish. If you'd also like private lessons, in Spanish or English, they cost €15/hour, subject to availability.

What does my child need for the class?

A computer or tablet with a camera and an internet connection. We use Zoom to talk and a shared Lichess board, which is free.

What if my child has never played?

Perfect: we have beginner groups that start with the rules. Tell us their age and availability in the form and we'll suggest a group.

How much does it cost?

Group classes cost €40/month for 1 h a week up to 1400, or €50/month for 1.5 h a week from 1400 to 1800, paid month by month with no commitment.
